Standard Form On A Casio Classwiz

🔶 Aʙᴏᴜᴛ Tʜɪs Vɪᴅᴇᴏ – This video looks at how you can change answers between ordinary number and standard form, which is designated as Science Notation or Sci on a Casio Calculator. It is a shame that there isn’t a way to scroll through different number formats on the calculator, so until that time this is the method that you need to use if you are using a calculator.

Finding The Maximum Height of a Projectile using Casio Classwiz fx-991EX

🔶 Aʙᴏᴜᴛ Tʜɪs Vɪᴅᴇᴏ – This video looks at finding the maximum height of a projectile and the horizontal distance from the starting point. There are two methods to solving this particular question. The first uses calculus to find the time when the gradient is zero and then applies that time to find the position of the ball. The second uses the polynomial solver and the shape of the graph to find the maximum height and the time it takes to get there, which is then used to find the horizontal distance.

Resources – Index & Logarithmic Notation – Use Your Calculator To Help Fill In The Blanks

Use you calculator to help work out missing blanks changing between index and logarithmic notation

https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/index-and-logarithmic-notation-use-your-calculator-to-help-fill-in-the-blanks-12060470

or on Teachers Pay Teachers

Putting the correct number in the correct place is always a challenge when switching between index and logarithmic notation. Use your calculator to help answer these 12 questions by filling in the missing blank on each row of the table.

Requires a calculator with a log to any base button, any root finder button and an exponent/index button. This would typically include any Casio Calculator with a textbook display such as fx-83/85GT or fx-991EX.

Solutions included.

Don’t Press SD – New FREE Resource

A task which encourages students not to immediately press SD after a calculation when the answer looks a bit scary.

https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/don-t-press-sd-12059359

Students are told not to press the SD button and not to give a approximate decimal answer except when given by the calculator itself. In this task there is an addition grid and a multiplication grid containing a combination of surds, fractions, indices and a trigonometric function. Students should input them into the calculator as presented and then write the first answer the calculator gives in the cross-section of the grid.

Perfect as a high end GCSE task, a GCSE-A-Level Mathematics bridging task or as an A-Level consolidation task for students who are maybe still uncomfortable about giving or getting exact answers.
